The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is offering a FREE online workshop to help middle and high school educators in the Chesapeake Bay watershed within WV, MD, VA, PA, and DC guide students through a local field-based watershed investigation using FieldScope, a classroom-friendly mapping program developed by National Geographic. Participants will learn to use the Mapping Our Streams curricular unit, in which students analyze human impacts on a local stream site that YOU select. We will help you adapt this unit for your classroom. Before the workshop, participants must do about 2 hours of work on their own reviewing FieldScope and identifying possible local stream sites for the curricular unit. To participate in any one of the following 90-minute workshop sessions, all you need is a phone and internet connectio. 2011 Mapping Our Streams with FieldScope Educator Online Workshop Registration due June 17 2011 This online workshop will help you guide students through a local field-based watershed investigation using a classroom-friendly mapping program developed by National Geographic (FieldScope). WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE? • Mapping Our Streams curricular unit aligned with state middle and high school science standards in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia and D.C. • Training and support on the online FieldScope mapping program WHERE AND WHEN? The Where is any location of your choosing where you have a phone and Internet connection. The When is one of the three dates listed below. Before the 90-minute online workshop, you will do about two hours of work on your own (reviewing FieldScope and identifying possible local stream sites for the curricular unit).
